Galway Kinnell's
twelve books of poetry include What a Kingdom It Was, The Book of Nightmares,
When One Has Lived a Long Time Alone, and Imperfect Thirst. He is
a former MacArthur Fellow and has been State Poet of Vermont. In 1982 his Selected
Poems won the Pulitzer Prize and the American Book Award. He is also the editor
of The Essential Whitman from Ecco Press.
