An avalanche of ash disappears the world outside my window.

In dreams I sleep near a crematorium....I awake to sacred ground.

And what of shoes?
Lasts formed to footfall
a shower of shoes
well heeled
worn with such life...
Single shoes line shoulders

Muslims are the new Commies
-someone tells me this is simpleminded
But when has the U.S. Gov't NOT pulled something off?
The taliban comes and goes
But it was always about the economy.
we are only stronger now, more united, more AMERICAN, i.e. ready for war.
Get ready for the train to Kabul.

While we are innundated by the propaganda of terrorism which blames others, we are blind to the fact that it is our nation that is becoming the terroist. But how would it look to have a picture of the American Flag as one of the FBI's most wanted? The patriotism of our country is becoming the anthrax of today...will anyone realize it before it's too late? Like lemmings, we all instinctivly follow the first in line. Can't we see that we're being led off a cliff? And once we fall; there will be no way to get back up.

It was hard, that first time across the GW Bridge.
Where the pair of thousands had lived and died, my memory blinked
(were they in the center? on the right?)
When someone else in the bus started humming the Air Force song; he's enlisting, you know.
I was quiet eyes, across the Bridge that day.
It was hard.

At 5 p.m.,up high, across our untouched Brooklyn sky,
float thousands of unmoored survivors: papers
flashing and glittering in between the rays of sun.
Mournful, horrifying, they journey in their beauty
above us, beyond us, graceful shards of fire.

My son asks,
“Is God is still alive?”
and wonders whether, facing all those bodies, God committed suicide.

The last thing lovers hear
Elemental and slowly
Is everyone just spilling
A new way to hurt
My first Lesson in time
To settle on the outside
I'd lie to your lies
A ton of thunder
"I have to catch a bus to
The worst place in the world"
With my torment
Woke an angel
Hanging against the bible
Tongue money
Tasting the old
History seems inevitable
Time is a poison
Take it like an angel
The beginning of my eyes
I nominate the silence
You wore the sun
A cloak of justice and juice
I've saved up on reality
Living so long in dreams

Are you awake?
This is no dream
Not one I know
Nor nightmare
Never has it been viewed
Like Rain
Invisible tears
Falling off cheeks
to the ground
Saturated in sadness
Absorbed
Like rain
they fall
Streaming in the night
Behind a veil
Hidden from view
Alone in silence
Do they wash away the pain?
Sadness and sorrows
drained
Released
Into the night
Througghout the day
Like rain
Falling
Endless
Replenishing life
Invisible tears
Countless
Falling off cheeks
Into the ground
Saturated
In sadness

our homes, lives, and bodies
with killing snow

I HAVE BEEN EATING NONSTOP SINCE 8:48 AM, SEPTEMBER 11TH

Hearing about the jet crash into the World Trade Center made
my stomach cramp up and flip inside out and over
leaving it empty, yearning, and burning
and as I finished my waffles, I turned on the tv
and went to the cabinet, reached for the
extra-crunchy peanut butter and spooned it on bread and then
opened the refrigerator, took out the salsa, poured it on
another piece of bread and put the two slices together and made a sandwich and
ate it with a bowl of vanilla fudge ice cream and I tore off a
hunk of mozzarella cheese and crammed it in my mouth with a
handful of walnuts.

Then the South Tower was hit.

I ate two bowls of popcorn, a head of cauliflower, a
ham and cheese sandwich, three Peppermint Patties, a
bowl of chili and a can of sardines.

So that’s how this whole week has been now and
I’m stuffing in everything I can and maybe if I fill up the
hole in my stomach I can fill up the hole in the building and plug up the
emptiness fill up the hole plug up my heart in my stomach the building fix and
patch and fill in the emptiness fix the world my head my heart the building and stuff in and
fill and patch my heart and fix the world and and and stuff and patch and fix and fill the building and fix the heart and patch ............

the fire taking over what would
eventually crumble
and change our lives forever
I prayed for you and watched
as debris and fire fell

When the last particle of dust
is swept away, the last twisted shard removed,
We shall turn to a question already raised...
How shall we mark this resting place? This endless moment? This senseless pain?
This unifying cause?
And in the end the way we answer will show our unassailable strength:
Here, a garden where things grow.
Here, a building where work is accomplished,
Here, a path to the future of the world.
