Como el fénix, alzemonós de entre las cenizas un pueblo unido, un pueblo amante, un pueblo intolerante del odio. (Like the Pheonix, let us rise from the ashes, a united people, a loving people, a people intolerant of hate.)

As the phoenix let us wear gold round our necks: let us dress in purple grief and praise; let our azure feathers glint with rose remembrance, let us stoke the fires that cleanse and remake us

my lungs are seared by the smoke of burning buildings and burning flesh. my hope is disfigured by political backlash. assaulted, not protected, by "the war on terrorism". the president says all must choose sides. perhaps a terrorist is one who is on another side. violence passed across from person to person, from government to government, from corporation to corporation. violence passed down through generations. a rise in the stock prices of cutting edge surveillance manufacturers. whatever it is, i'm against it. fredonia's going to war. evasive manoeuvers. jokes to circumnavigate. loose words -- the antidote that emerges.

Love, Peace, Hope/Faith, is a road that we pave for ourselves. The integrity of such ideas can only be seen through the souls that we only wish we can redeem from the dawn of our being.

Maybe we should tell them our names. Maybe we can learn their names. Maybe then we can find words to share together.

outdide this window?
ash tracks crossing an accident of perfect glass and the sigh
of other shaded lightbulbs, in other offices,
other rooms.

Better to fly than do nothing.
Better to fly.

a fine mist it follows us
we run up streets
trying not to look back
but we wonder
how fast can you run
how many times can you die

the day hangs heavy on the
sidewalks
red sun rise
broken sky line
dust like snow clouds
the radio muttering
war crys
young faces melted dead
only uglyness remains
Osama bin laden
i am haunted by your morning
empty hate face

And the smoke rose like dry ice
On a scultural work of art
As the moviemakers rushed to the scene
And the Twin Towers
turned into the Collisseum
and the criss crossed girders
of a tall city of commerce
Stripped of its function
looked like lace
Its symbolism twisted in the dawn's early light.
