At the first People's Poetry Gathering, on April 10, 1999, 30 poetry lovers participated in the renga party at Poets House. Groups of five or six people worked with an experienced renga poet from the Spring Street Haiku society. Each group worked on a collaborative poem in keeping with the traditional Japanese form of renga, in which the beginning of each verse must associate to the end of the previous verse, and each is composed in Haiku style. This is the result of two of the collaborations (initials and names identify the participant who contributed the verse).
